Recommendation for the mitigation of sentence for selected prisoners on board/in: Antelope.

Names and details of prisoners:

Benjamin Bennett aged 19 convicted of stealing goods from a stage coach at Derby [Derbyshire] on 22 marches 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

George Clark aged 20 convicted of larceny at Old bailey 9 April 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

William Duffey aged 27 convicted of stealing from a shop at Bedford [Bedfordshire] on 14 July 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

John Backus convicted of an unstated offence at Kirkdale [Lancashire] on 28 April 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation. [crossed out].

John Ibbotson aged 22 convicted of stealing morine at Old Bailey on 24 May 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

John Haigh aged 24 convicted of desertion at Dublin on 18 April 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

John Latham aged 25 convicted of stealing a watch.

at Old Bailey on 9 April 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

John Melvin aged 34 convicted of house breaking at Aberdeen on 14 April 1823. Initial sentence: 7 Years transportation.

Gaoler's name: John Henry Capper Superintendent of convicts.

Grounds for clemency (Recommendation Details): Served half their sentence with good conduct.

Annotated (Recommendation Details): Free pardon prepared 16 January 1828.

Additional Information: The list notes that Clark and Duffey have been recommended an account of their part in discovering a robbery by two other prisoners and annotated against their names is July next.

Melvin is recommended by the Commissioners of the Dock Yard for his services in blowing rock. After he is pardoned, the Commissioners intend to employ him on the works.
