Description

Envelope mounted on reverse of divider card item 68 containing postcards relating to the GER [Great Eastern Railway] and later LNER [London and North Eastern Railway] branch line between Shenfield and Hutton Junction and Southend-on-Sea, Essex:

1) Monochrome postcard with caption printed on front, '89540 Rochford [Essex] Station', view from the Down platform looking south eastwards through the station with the footbridge in the foreground [image c.1920], 9cm x 14cm.

2) Monochrome postcard with stamped caption on reverse, 'Photograph by W A Camwell' and also a manuscript caption on reverse, 'Wickford [Essex] 6 June 1938, [London and North Eastern Railway Class J15 formerly Great Eastern Railway Y14 0-6-0 locomotive No] 7555 [in the Up siding and Gresley J39 0-6-0 locomotive No] 2715 on [passenger] train [approaching on the Down main line]', view looking towards the Wickford Yard signal box from beside the points leading into the goods yard [at the north west end of the station], 9cm x 14cm.

3) Monochrome postcard published by Fred Spalding Photographer Chelmsford no 1830 with printed caption on front, 'Wickford, Essex', view from beside the Up line at the north west end of the platforms looking south eastwards through the station with the footbridge in the foreground [image c.1920], 9cm x 14cm.

4) Monochrome postcard published by Fred Spalding Photographer Chelmsford no 1831 with printed caption on front, 'Wickford, Essex', view looking north westwards through the station from the south east end of the platforms with a GER locomotive visible in the distance near the entrance to the goods yard at north west end [image c.1920], 9cm x 14cm.
