Description

Envelope mounted on reverse of divider card item 39 containing the following photographic images relating to the Great Eastern Railway Cambridge to Marks Tey, Essex branch line:

1) Colour postcard published [c.1910] in the Fair View Series by E W [Edgar Wellington] Morley, Linton, Cambridgeshire, showing the Iron Age burial mounds at Bartlow, Cambridgeshire and with the following manuscript notes on the reverse, 'GER [Great Eastern Railway] Cambridge to Marks Tey, Colchester [Essex] Branch, Bartlow Junction with the Saffron Walden [Essex] Branch from Audley End [Essex]', 9cm x 14cm.

2) Monochrome postcard published in the Osborne Series No 33 with printed caption on the front, 'Cavendish, [West] Suffolk', showing [the station master's] house and beyond it the station building on the left and the level crossing in the foreground, with a GER J Holden Class T26 2-4-0 awaiting departure on a Cambridge-bound passenger train [image c.1910], 9cm x 14cm.

3) Monochrome postcard with printed caption on front, 'Viaduct, Chappel [Essex]', broadside view from across the fields [image c.1910], 9cm x 14cm.

4) Monochrome postcard published in the Kingsway Real Photo Series No S9168 with printed caption on the front, 'Viaduct, Chappel [Essex]', viewed along its length [image c.1930], 9cm x 14cm.

5) Cutting from unknown and undated source, monochrome photographic image with printed caption underneath, 'Across Country to Cambridge, [former London and North Eastern Railway] Class J15 0-6-0 No 65441 [originally Great Eastern Railway T W W Worsdell Class Y14 (J Holden series) No 641] Eases the Stock for the 11.50am Train to Sudbury [West Suffolk] and Cambridge into the Branch Platform at Marks Tey [Essex] on the Liverpool Street to Ipswich [East Suffolk] Main Line 8 May 1954', photograph by J N Faulkner.
