Description

Prisoner name: Elizabeth Merchant [or Imlach].

Prisoner age: 63.

Court and date of trial: Circuit Court of Justiciary at Aberdeen on 27 April 1835.

Crime: Larceny.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Annotated (Outcome): To be discharged 30 September 1840. Free pardon 5 October 1840.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner [signed by Alex Mitchell as prisoner cannot write] and countersigned by George Cockburn, keeper of the Gaol of Aberdeen, and seen and approved by Robert Cornhill, chaplain to the gaol; Alexander Thomson.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Spent nearly half sentence in Aberdeen Gaol; good conduct in gaol and she is infirm; age.

Other papers: Letter, 1 June 1838, from Alex Mitchell transmitting petition from prisoner.
