Description

Prisoner name: William Kinnaird.

Prisoner age: 34.

Court and date of trial: Circuit Court of Justiciary held in Inverness on 16 April 1838 by Lord Cockburn.

Crime: Sheep stealing.

Initial sentence: Seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character understood to be very good.

Annotated (Outcome): Refer for the opinion of the judge who tried the prisoner. Free pardon and answered 14 June 1838.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner; William Barclay, Minster of Auldearn and 2 Elders; 12 residents of Auldearn.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Innocent of crime; good character; insufficient evidence; respectable family.
