Description

County or diocese: various.

Grant: Four papal tenths, 1330 Jan 3.

Document type: Receipts and memorandum.

Folios or pages: 2.

This file of two parchment membranes contains the following documents: (1) A warrant (m. 2) issued by Edward III acknowledging the receipt of the sum of £9,000 from Master Itier de Concoreto, papal collector of the tenths imposed for four years on the English clergy by Pope John XXII, from the receipts of the second year of the tax, and paid to Peter de Reyneri and Bartholomew de Bardi, and the society of Florentine merchants known as the Bardi, in part repayment of the king's debt to them, and ordering that letters patent of acknowledgment be made to Concoreto. Given at Odiham on 27 October 1331; (2) Another warrant (m. 2) issued by the same king to the same merchants for the sum of £8,000 from the receipts of the second year of the same tax, and ordering that letters patent of acknowledgment be made to Concoreto. Given at Odiham on 29 October 1331; (3) Memorandum apparently written at the Exchequer (m. 1) about Concoreto's acquittance for these sums, noting that he does not need to bring tallies for his acquittance because he has the king's letters of acquittance. On the dorse is a note of the receipt from Concoreto, as papal collector of first fruits of vacant benefices reserved to the pope?, half of which was granted to the king, by the hands of William Colby, of the sum of £997 7s.3d., for this moiety.

Although dirty, these documents are generally legible.

This piece number was added to the E 179 series from unsorted miscellanea on 25 October 2012.
