This bundle of twelve parchment membranes contains twelve receipts given to the prioress and nuns of Aconbury Priory for the payment of various clerical taxes, over the period 1330-1380, as follows: (1) Receipt (m. 1) given by Thomas de Boleye and Philip de la More, subcollectors of Thomas, bishop of Hereford, principal collector of the quadrennial tenths imposed by Pope John XXII (in 1330), acknowledging their receipt of 14s. sterling from the prioress of Aconbury of the moiety due at Michaelmas term (that is, the first payment due to be paid on 29 September 1330), paid by them for the tax on their churches of Bridge Sollers and Wolferlow. Given at Hereford on 26 September 1330; (2) Receipt (m. 2) given by the same subcollectors, acknowledging their receipt of 14s. sterling from the prioress of Aconbury of the moiety due for the second term of the second year of the tax due at Martinmas (that is, the fourth payment due to be paid on 11 November 1331), paid by them for the tax on the same churches. Given at Hereford on 10 November 1331. Some of this document can only be read with the aid of a UV lamp; (3) Receipt (m. 3) given by Walter Carles and Philip de la More, clerks, subcollectors in Hereford diocese of the same quadrennial tenths, acknowledging their receipt of 14s. sterling from the prioress and convent of Aconbury of the moiety due for the first term of the third year of the tax (that is, the fifth payment due to be paid on 24 June 1332), paid by them for the tax on the same churches. Given at Hereford on 22 June 1332, with one seal still attached; (4) Receipt (m. 4) given by the abbot and convent of Wigmore, collectors in the city and diocese of Hereford of the tenth granted to Edward III by the clergy of the province of Canterbury in the last convocation (i.e., that meeting in September 1334) to the prioress of Aconbury, acknowledging receipt of 28s. of silver which they received by the hands of Brother John de Lydebury for the tax due from the priory for their spiritualities in the archdeaconry of Hereford for the second payment of the tax due to have been paid on 25 September 1335. Given at Wigmore on 28 June 1335, with part of the abbot's seal still attached; (5) Receipt (m. 5) given by the same abbot and convent, collectors in the diocese of Hereford of the triennial tenths granted to Edward III by the clergy of the province of Canterbury in the convocation that met at St. Bride's church London (in 1337) to the prioress of Aconbury, acknowledging receipt of 28s. which they received by the hands of Brother John de Lydebury for the tax due from the priory of their churches of Wolferlow, Mansell Lacy and Bridge Sollers, for the second payment of the first year of the tax, due to have been paid on 24 June 1338. Given at Wigmore on 7 July 1338; (6) Receipt (m. 6) given by Brother Richard, abbot of Wigmore, collector of the tenth granted to Edward III by the clergy of the province of Canterbury in 1338, acknowledging receipt from the prioress of Aconbury of the sum of 28s. due from the prioress and convent for their spiritualities in the diocese of Hereford for the second payment of the same tax. Given at Wigmore on 5 July 1341, with a small part of his seal still attached; (7) Receipt (m. 7) given by Richard Wawayn, sheriff of Hereford, acknowledging receipt, by the hands of Nicholas Wawayn, the sum of 54s. due from the prioress of Aconbury for the tax due to be paid on the priory's temporalities in the archdeaconry of Hereford for [the arrears due for?] the biennial tenths granted to Edward III in 1336. Given at Hereford Castle on 25 May 1342, with his well-preserved seal still attached; (8) Receipt (m. 8) given by the prior and convent of St. Guthlac, Hereford, collectors in the diocese of Hereford of the annual tenth granted to Edward III [in 1342], acknowledging receipt from her of 28s. sterling for the second payment of that tenth. Given at Hereford on 23 June 1443, with a small, but well preserved, piece of their seal still attached; (9) Receipt (m. 9) given by the prior of St. Guthlac, Hereford, acknowledging receipt from the prioress of Aconbury of the sum of 28s. for the second payment of the tenth [granted to Edward III by the clergy of the province of Canterbury in 1356], due to have been paid on 24 June 1357. Given at Hereford on that same day, with a small part of his seal still attached; (10) Receipt (m. 10) given by the prior of St. Guthlac, Hereford, acknowledging receipt from the prioress of Aconbury of the sum of £7 18s.10d. for the first [and] second years of the triennial tenth granted to Edward III [in 1370]. Given on 1 December 1372; (11) Receipt (m. 11) given by the abbot of St. James, Wigmore, collector in the diocese of Hereford of the annual tenth granted to Edward III [in 1373], due to have been paid on 24 June 1374 and 2 February 1375, acknowledging receipt from the prioress of Aconbury of £7 2s.3d. Given at Leintwardine in the year 1375; and (12) Receipt (m. 12) given by the prior of Wormsley, acknowledging receipt from the prioress of Aconbury of the sum of 44s. for both terms of payment of the subsidy granted to Richard II by the clergy in the last convocation (that is, the combination tenth and poll tax granted in February 1380), for [the tax due on] their churches of Mansell Lacy and Bridge Sollers. Given on 3 June 1380. Parts of this document can only be read with the aid of a UV lamp.

All of these receipts are undoubtedly from the archive of Aconbury Priory, much of which is now spread among several series of documents at The National Archives, having come into the crown's possession after the dissolution of the monasteries.
