Grant: Four papal tenths, 1309 May 18.

This single parchment membrane is a receipt given by Robert de Clifford and Bartholomew de Badelesmere to the prior and convent of the [cathedral] priory of St. Mary, Carlisle, collectors in the diocese of Carlisle of the 'five' tenths imposed by Pope Clement VIII, acknowledging their receipt of 20 marks sterling for tenth collected in that diocese for the fourth year of its imposition. They have received this money for the king's use in expediting his business, and they attest that the amount should be allowed in the account of the prior and convent, in acknowledgment of which they have affixed their seals (partially still remaining). Given at Carlisle on 8 March 1311.

The document is wholly legible.
