Description

County or diocese: Caernarfonshire.

Grant: Fifteenth levied in England, Wales and the Welsh Marches, 1290 April 1 x Sept 22.

Document type: Assessment (individuals). Includes names of individuals.

Folios or pages: 2.

This document comprises two fragmentary membranes from an assessment of individuals ostensibly for the fifteenth granted to Edward I in 1290, for the commotes of Eifionydd, Is Gwyrfai and Uwch Gwyrfai in Caernarfonshire.

The document is incomplete and has suffered damage, particularly to the first membrane. However, the remaining text is quite clear and legible.

No heading survives to give details of grant or date. However, from the form and handwriting of the piece, it almost certainly relates to the 1290 tax, extended to Wales on 20 January 1291, and must have been compiled at some point after that date.

Most of the names currently marked as 'illegible' are actually clear, but have not yet been identified.
