This series contains records of the Further Education Funding Council, Widening Participation Committee (Kennedy Committee), originally held in JS 5.

These records were transferred to this series as part of the programme of migration of digital records at The National Archives in March 2008 and were presented via Electronic Records Online until 2014.

The series contains the papers of the Widening Participation Committee set up by the Further Education Funding Council in 1994 and chaired by Helena Kennedy QC.

The Further Education Funding Council set up the Widening Participation Committee in December 1994 to advise on achieving the Council's aim of promoting access to further education to people who do not normally participate in education and training. The committee published its report, Learning Works, in June 1997.
