These files were in the custody of the Manpower Services Commission from 1974 to 1990, and cover the registered files on the development and operation of Employment Services Agency 1974 to 1978, Employment Services Division 1978 to 1982, Employment Division 1982 to 1986, Employment and Enterprise Group 1986 to 1990, with the prefix E. From 1990 the files were in the custody of Employment Services 1990 to 2001 (that included the Department of Education and Employment 1995-2001). The Department for Work and Pensions became custodians of these records in 2001.

Administrative / biographical background

While the Employment Service Agency existed as a separate body up to 1978, it operated as a Division within the Manpower Services Commission (MSC). From 1978, it ceased to exist as a separate body and officially became the Empoyment Services Division. The executive committees, which were responsible for policy matters and performance monitoring, continued to exist.
