Description

Captured ship: St Antonio of Agde, a polacre (master Pierre Austry).

History: second capture: a French ship (8 men), bound from London to Bordeaux; taken on 15/26 November 1744 by the privateer Expedition (John Bawden commanding), and brought into Falmouth (along with another 'prize', the English-built ship Prosperity.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6-CP 8]: two attestations, affidavit;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: affidavit enclosing a letter from Falmouth;
  • [CP 11-CP 13]: affidavit, account of charges at Falmouth, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 14-CP 16]: affidavit from the London Customs House, a parchment coquet detailing the furniture to be delivered to Bordeaux on behalf of John Mondehare, and the affidavit of John Mondehare of Westminster that the furniture was being sent to his son-in-law John Collingwood, staying at Bordeaux to recover his health by taking baths and water;
  • [CP 17-CP 18]: attestations from Falmouth as to the state of the ship's rigging, and to the previous account of charges, March 1745;
  • [CP 19-CP 23]: translations of several ship's papers [which were restored], including the pass for Mr Collingwood.

[Decision: second capture: restored with costs and damages 15 January 1745]
