The files relate to the policies of the branch, which were originally related to Supplementary Benefits in the following areas: immigration; students; resettlement units and re-establishment centres; liaison with associated voluntary bodies welfare arrangements and their relations with social services; board and lodging payments; hostels and residential homes; Polish homes (see AST 18, these had been in existence since the Second World War). Later the branch evolved to include Income Support policies on housing costs; people in education; people in long term care and the benefit aspects related to care in the community.
