Recommendation for the mitigation of sentence for selected prisoners on board/in: Retribution.

Names and details of prisoners:

James Fisher, convicted of sheep stealing at Derby on 21 March 1821. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

William Preston, convicted of highway robbery at Shrewsbury [Shropshire] on 21 March 1821. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

Matthew Bailey, convicted of burglary at Leicester on 25 March 1822. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

John Howell, convicted of stealing in a dwelling house at Kingston on 30 December 1822. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

William Richardson, convicted of uttering forged notes at Dumfries on 9 April 1823. Initial sentence: transportation for life.

Robert Darling, convicted of receiving stolen notes at Maidstone [Kent] on 17 March 1823. Initial sentence: transportation for 14 years.

Gaoler's name: John Capper.

Grounds for clemency (Recommendation Details): Industry and good conduct.

Annotated (Recommendation Details): Transportation for Fisher, Preston, Bailey Howell and Richardson mitigated to 14 years; Darling to 7 years. Approved SMP [Samuel March Phillips].
