Description

Prisoner name: Sarah Selley.

Prisoner age: 20.

Court and date of trial: Exeter [Devon] Quarter Sessions January 1828.

Crime: Stealing a watch from John Nicholls valued at 5 shillings.

Initial sentence: 14 years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character from gaol bad. Convicted once before. Common prostitute.

Petitioner(s): Prisoner; H Selley and 34 signatories.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Prisoner not guilty of offence real culprit was Elizabeth Collins; prosecutor agreed not to bring an action if watch was returned to him which it was; accomplice received 12 months' imprisonment.
