Miscellaneous intelligence 1917.

Folio 1: Title page.

Folio 2: Explanatory note. During the period of the War, papers of a confidential nature in the office of the C-in-C Home Fleet were filed in Packs (numbered separately from the non-confidential records) in a Series 001 to 0042 inclusive. Copies of relevant telegrams were filed in these packs, but a complete set of all telegrams was also maintained. The secret packs were re-arranged by the Grand fleet secretarial staff in February 1919, when papers considered unimportant were removed and destroyed, and the remainder re-indexed. They were received in this form by the Historical Section in April 1920, and bound as received, in a series of Volumes. The 1919 index will be found in the first volume (see ADM 137/1881) and extracts from these have been inserted in each succeeding volume. This volume is the 27th of the series.

Folios 55-61: Letter from Director of the Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet, 20 January 1917. NID 6061/17. Copy of an intercepted letter from a Frau Adelung, Glücksburg near Flensburg, Germany to Frau Kapitӓn zur See Saxer, 164 Bubbling Well Road Shanghai.

Information obtained from the German prize crew captured from the Italian SS Famiglia captured by HMS Moldavia on 9 February 1917 comprising:- 1. List of prisoners (German prize crew). 2. Folios 120-128: Letter from Director of the Intelligence Division to C-in-C Grand Fleet, 10 April 1917, NID 11859 with copy of preliminary report of examination of Karl Trommer, Able Seaman, deserter from German Navy (born in Reichenau, Saxony on 8 March 1897) comprising:- 1. General. 2. Squadron formations. 3. Light cruisers. 4. Battle of Jutland (during part of the action Trommer was on the wheel in the conning tower of the Friedrich der Grosse.) 5. Tripod masts and control positions. 6. Smoke screen (Nebelentwickler.) 7. Raiders.
