The General Expenditure Sector, reporting to the Second Permanent Secretary (Public Expenditure) was created in 1986 and replaced the Industry Sector. It was responsible for the strategic coverage of the following Groups: General Expenditure Policy Group; Defence Manpower and Materiel Group.
The General Expenditure Sector was replaced by the Industry Sector in 1993.
