7954. Bermuda. Governor William Browne to Carleton. With reference to Carleton's despatch of 12 May in which he is ordered to keep Thomas Poole in custody. Before he takes any step which may prove hazardous and lead to serious self consequences, he asks to be informed as to the grounds on which this may be done. Is Poole a prisoner of state [as he can no longer be a prisoner of war.]? If possible wishes to receive a copy of his trial and conviction.
