Administrative / biographical background

The Attendance Allowance Board (AAB) is an independent statutory body established by the National Insurance Act 1970. The AAB is responsible for policy and presentation of board case work, and the monitoring of decisions reached by the board's Delegated Medical Practitioners. These decisions related to the qualification for Attendance Allowance. The Disability Living Allowance Advisory Board (DLAAB) is an independent statutory body established by the Social Security Act 1991. The benefit entitlement was amended by the Disability Living Allowance and Disability Working Allowance Act 1991. The DLAAB secretariat is responsible for board case work and the publication of the Disability Handbook.
