Folio 234: Captain Edward Vernon, the Mary, Port Royal, Jamaica. He is sending this letter with Captain Dent of the Mermaid who is going to lead the homeward convoy. His last letter went with Captain Winter of the Neptune, merchant ship. Only the Milford, Captain Chamberlain commanding, is in port. He has Mr Adams' receipt for stores landed. As his orders have gone with Captain Dent to Barbados, he asks for repeat instructions. He suggests employing someone locally to control the stores and storehouse, as the Mermaid and Milford have had stores without receipts being given. The Ludlow Castle will need new cables and repairs to the foremast which was shot at by a Spanish Man of War from Havana. He has paid for the careening of the Mermaid and asks for reimbursement.
