To: Messrs B Page and Co, Oxford Street, Southampton [Hampshire].
From: The General Board of Health.
Subject Matter: Draft letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 26 December 1855, on the subject of the memorial [petition] forwarded by them on the 24 October 1855. It is pointed out that the General Board have no power to control the Local Board in the exercise of the powers given to them by the Public Health Act 1848. The memorialists are therefore advised to make direct application to the officers of the Southampton Local Board. It is understood that the Local Board are now taking measures to remedy the evil complained of in the memorial which was forwarded by Messrs B Page and Co.
