To: The General Board of Health.
From: Messrs B Page and Co, Oxford Street, Southampton [Hampshire].
Subject Matter: Letter enclosing a memorial [petition] from certain owners and occupiers of houses situated in Oxford Street, Terminus Terrace, Latimer Street, John Street, and Barnard Street, Southampton, calling attention to the overflow of the sewers in these districts, 'which continually takes place with rain, at high water, to the height of three or four feet in the kitchens, evolving gases, during and previous to inundation, of a most offensive nature, admitted by the Officer of the Local Board to be a productive source of fever and other diseases; and he regrets that the power to enforce an immediate remedy is not vested in him'.
