Folios 68-69.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: Charles E Deacon, Town Clerk and Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Southampton [Hampshire].
Subject Matter: Letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 10 October 1855, advising that the plans for the sewerage works of Southampton have been received and that the President of the General Board of Health will be glad to receive the proposed deputation after the plans have been examined and considered. Having laid the Board's communication before the Mayor, Deacon has been directed to state that in consequence of the recent heavy rains, many cellars in the lower part of the town are flooded, and that in some of them there is several feet of sewage. The Local Board are consequently said to be additionally anxious that no delay should take place in the approval of the plans by the General Board, and they hope that the same will be carried out with all convenient expedition. Deacon explains that he will be happy to wait upon the General Board at any time with Mr Marriott, to afford every explanation and information in their power that may be required.
