Folios 33-34.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: Charles E Deacon, Town Clerk and Clerk to the Local Board of Health, Southampton [Hampshire].
Subject Matter: Letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 1 August 1855, and of the accompanying copy of a letter and memorial [petition] on the subject of a nuisance caused by a sewer discharging its contents in the vicinity of the Ferry on the River Itchen. Deacon advises that he has brought the same under the consideration of the sanitary committee of the Local Board of Health. He has been instructed to inform the General Board that at the present time it is entirely out of the power of the Local Board to remedy the evil complained of. The Board are said, however, to be daily expecting certain amended plans for completing the sewerage of the town from their Engineer, Mr Simpson, whom they have consulted upon the subject. When the plans are finally determined upon, Deacon explains that it will be the most anxious wish of the Board to complete the works at the earliest possible period.
