Folios 463-464.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: George Lowther, Clerk to the Selby Local Board, Selby [Yorkshire].
Subject Matter: Letter referring to the town of Wiston [Yorkshire] which is separated from the district of the Selby Local Board by an open drain. The part of Wiston referred to is occupied by a large wood called Cawood, and the township of Selby adjoining on the township of Wiston. Lowther explains that it would be of great benefit if the owner of the wood could establish a right to construct bridges across the open drain separating the two townships for the conveying the timber from the wood for onward shipment or otherwise. He asks whether the own of the wood at their discretion can construct a bridge over the boundary drain between the two townships to the injury and damage of the Local Board's roads and the consequent loss of the ratepayer. He encloses a sketch showing the open drain and the boundaries of the township, the ancient road through the wood, to the wood lane at the point referred to from the Ordnance map [not included in item].
