Folios 450-452.
To: The General Board of Health.
From: George Lowther, Clerk to the Selby Local Board, Selby [Yorkshire].
Subject Matter: Letter enclosing details of a particular query between the Selby Local Board and the Selby Gas Company, relating to the company taking up the pavements in the public streets for the supply of gas to the public without the prior knowledge or consent of the Selby Local Board. The Local Board consider that they have grounds for complaint against the gas company on this and refer to section 68 of the Public Health Act 1848 on this matter. Lowther also encloses a resolution made on the 6 August 1857 ordering that notice should be given to the Selby Gas Company that for all their future operations, the pavements should be taken up and put down by the Surveyor of the Selby Local Board and the cost charged to the Selby Gas Company.
