Description

Folios 204-205.

To: The General Board of Health.

From: Henry Wrigg, Surveyor, Preston Local Board of Health [Lancashire].

Subject Matter: Letter referring to previous correspondence relating to an enlargement of the Ordnance Survey plan of Preston to the scale prescribed by the General Board. He advises that the Local Board have resolved to undertake the work under the supervision of their surveyor, but wish to obtain the sanction of the General Board before the work begins. This, he explains, is in order to avoid expense, since 'the preliminary expenses to bring the Public Health Act [1848] into force are found to press heavily upon the rate-payers'. He submits Ordnance Sheet No 17 [not included in the item] for the General Board's approval, in order to illustrate the mode by which the enlargement will be done. He states that every care will be taken to ensure that competent persons are employed for the job, and that enlargements will be made from dry copies of the Ordnance plans, so long as they can be obtained from the Ordnance Department. Wrigg trusts that the General Board will approve of this method and asks them to urge the Ordnance Department to at once supply two dry copies of the relevant sheets.
