Folio(s) 158-162. Letter marked 'Secret' to John Reeves from [Henry W Brooke] of the Alien Office setting out, for the Home Secretary's information, his views on General [Amédée Willot], whose letters to the Marquis de Chambonas had given rise to suspicions. He also gives information on Mr O'Keef, alias De Ville O'Keef, formerly an officer in the Prince of Wales's 13th Light Dragoons, who had been suspected of being a Captain in the First Consul's Guards.
Brooke states that he has had dealings with foreigners of all descriptions and has maintained good relations with a number of those whom he thought would be useful in forwarding the objectives of the Alien Office. He had been sent by the Duke of Portland [former Home Secretary] in 1799 to receive Willot and Barthélemy when they arrived in England from Cayenne. Brooke did not doubt Willot's adherence to the Royalist cause. O'Keef's father was Treasurer to the French Princes and had lost considerable amounts of money during the Revolution. O'Keef had expressed hatred against Bonaparte and his Government.
Annotated with the reasons why Brooke was asked to write this report, why Chambonas had been under surveillance and why Willot was not watched.
