Description

Envelope, containing 10 newspaper cuttings [items not connected with British Railways, cross references given to relevant part of collection where appropriate],[items originally housed in ZSPC 11/687/70]:

1) 'The Locomotive', 'Correspondence, Power [to] Weight Ratio', from F J Haut, 6 June 1948, [comparison of electric, steam and diesel ratios], [see ZSPC 11/400/21].

2) 'The Locomotive', [c 1951], page 87, '0-6-0 Shunting Locomotives for Sudan', construction details 3 feet 6 inches gauge locomotive built by Hunslet Engine [Company Limited], principal dimensions, monochrome photographic illustration [see ZSPC 11/458].

3) unidentified, undated publication [probably 'Model Engineer', c 1955], 'The LMVLR' [Leek and Manifold Valley Light Railway], [part of letter, writer unknown, giving brief details of locomotives Nos 1 and 2], [see ZSPC 11/284].

4) repeat of item 3.

5) ['Model Engineer'], manuscript dated '27 [February] [1958]', 'Narrow Gauge [Locomotives]', correspondence from Raymond S Fox and M A Schuman [answer to questions on locomotives working at Port Dinorwic], [see ZSPC 11/436 and ZSPC 11/449].

7) 'Model Engineer', undated [c 1960], page 364, 'Firing Virginia', [operating methods for 4-4-0 American outline model steam locomotive], monochrome photographic illustration.

8) typed 'Sunday Despatch, 1 [May] 1960', 'The Goddess who glides at 8 miles per gallon', by Herbert Kretzmer, [description of Rolls-Royce cars and some example owners, includes nothing relevant to railways].

9) 'Model Engineer', 15 June 1961, page 756, 'Locomotive Names', correspondence from 'P A S of Leicester', [giving information on North British Railway 4-4-2 locomotives, and liveries of Great Central Railway 0-6-0 locomotives].
