Description

Prisoner name: Samuel Murrell.

Prisoner age: 27.

Court and date of trial: Essex Winter Assizes, Chelmsford, November 1833.

Crime: Burglary in premises of William Skinner on 2 August 1833, [together with Allan Lane].

Initial sentence: Commuted to seven years transportation.

Gaoler's report: Character etc unknown.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from the prisoner, both undersigned by William Skinner, the prosecutor, and two former employers; the first also by six and the second by 13 inhabitants of Whitechapel and district.

William Skinner, the prosecutor, and 16 inhabitants of Whitechapel and district.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Family dependent on his earnings; prosecutor recommends mercy; first offence.

Other papers: Prisoner held on board Justitia hulk, Woolwich.
