Description

Prisoner name: Charles Goodwin.

Prisoner occupation: Servant.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey Sessions, January 1834.

Crime: Stealing two Bank of England notes, value £20 and £10, the property of John Robert Daniel Tyssen of Warwick Road, Upper Clapton, Middlesex, esquire, the son of William Tyssen of Maidstone, Kent, the prisoner's employer.

Initial sentence: Transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: Not known. Married, one child.

Annotated (Outcome): Nil.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner, undersigned by John Robert Daniel Tyssen, the prosecutor.

Two petitions from John Goodwin of Goodnestone, Wingham, Kent, the prisoner's father.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Good character; first offence; prosecutor recommends mercy; sentence severe for crime; respectable family; youth; good conduct in Van Diemen's Land.
