Description

Prisoner name: John Linley and Thomas Walker.

Prisoner age: Linley aged 30, Walker aged 26.

Prisoner occupation: Walker, a joiner.

Court and date of trial: York Assizes, August 1832.

Crime: Highway robbery.

Initial sentence: [Death], commuted to transportation for life.

Gaoler's report: Characters etc indifferent. They were intoxicated when they committed the offence.

Annotated (Outcome): Send abroad.

Petitioner(s): Two petitions from inhabitants of Stanley, Wakefield, Yorkshire, the first signed by 18 people, the second by 17 people.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Good characters; intoxicated; would be re-employed if released.

Other papers: Certificate from James Baumforth of Wakefield, joiner, the prisoner Walker's former master, testifying to his good character.

Certificate from Richard Lockwood of Wakefield, the prisoner Lindley's employer, testifying to his good character.
