Description

Prisoner name: Charles Turner.

Prisoner age: 19.

Prisoner occupation: Footman.

Court and date of trial: Old Bailey Sessions, February 1831.

Crime: Stealing six silver spoons and six silver forks in the dwelling house of Henry St George Tucker, esquire.

Initial sentence: Death, commuted to transportation for life.

Annotated (Outcome): Considered at Report in Council 13 April 1831. Abroad.

Petitioner(s): The prisoner.

Jonathan Turner of 1 Bryanston Square, the prisoner's father.

Robert and John Gunter of 7 Berkeley Square, the prisoner's former employers.

Henry St George Tucker of 3 Upper Portland Place, the prosecutor.

Sophia Stuby of 12 Old Burlington Street, the prisoner's former employer.

A Moore of 31 Milk Street, the prisoner's former employer.

Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Respectable family; good character; jury and prosecutor recommend mercy; first offence; would be re-employed if released.

Other papers: Letter from William Newton of St Paul's Churchyard, the prisoner's former employer, testifying to his good character.
