Folio 271: Commissioner Sir Richard Beach, Portsmouth. The Clerk of the Cheque wishes to know if he should enter volunteers into the Cambridge and Essex. He has provided Captain Bond with everything he needed for the St. David. He thinks the new arrangement with the buoys, at the edge of Newman's land and the south end of the hawse, should be put into the Gazette. He has ordered the Clerk of the Cheque to pay Captain Layton half the money demanded for the men brought from the Hampton Court. He will discuss the provision of pitch with Mr. Small. The Richmond and the Woolwich, with ships under convoy, have sailed. The Warspite has been cleaned but she has no men. The Monmouth will be launched but the Cadiz Merchant will have to stay. If Captain Willshaw comes on Monday he hopes to finish on Thursday or Friday.
