This series contains records of the European Integration Department (External) of the Foreign and Commonweatlh Office. The records cover European Economic Community (EEC) policy on aid to third countries, EEC relations with non-Community countries, enlargement of the EEC by accession of new member states and implementation of the Lomé Convention (a trade and aid agreement between the EEC and African, Caribbean and Pacific (APC) countries).
The records are arranged by original file reference within annual cycles of registered files.
References for born-digital records are automatically generated and display a 'Z' after a forward slash, which distinguish them from traditional references allocated to paper and digitised records.

From 2006 Foreign and Commonwealth Office
The European Integration Department (External) was formed in 1973, during the run up to the UK's accession to the European Economic Community (EEC), although a separate file series was not established for the department until 1976. It dealt with matters involving European political cooperation and the Community's relations with third countries and with western countries outside the EEC. In 1980 it became the European Community Department (External) and in 1994 the European Union Department (External).
