Administrative / biographical background

The World Economy Division (IG 3) was constituted within the Overseas Finance Sector, International Group, under a Treasury re-organisation of 1978. The Division took over responsibilities for world economic prospects forecasting and advice and world economy briefing, and for co-ordination of work on international economic policy, which had been within Balance of Payments and International Monetary divisions.

WEP prefix succeeded WE prefix in 1981. It was created by the World Economy Division and successors (under the International Group and thereunder the Overseas Finance sector). WEP prefix was terminated in 1996.
