6564. Carleton to Lieutenant Benjamin Slack. Headquarters, New York. Instructions to examine the military state and defences of Bermuda &c. He is to report on the condition of the troops, magazines, fortifications, cannon, arms and ammunition, and gives orders to apply for every assistance and information that shall be requisite for making a strict examination through the services of the commanding officer. Also has been informed that a number of inhabitants are embodied as militia which he is to report on.
