6556. Lieutenant-Governor Archibald Campbell to Carleton. Jamaica. Encloses duplicate of letter sent by Lord Charles Montague and extracts of Spanish letters found on board a merchant ship. These papers show that the siege of Gibralter is raised and that a large armament of the enemy's combined forces are to proceed soon for the West Indies for an attack on Jamaica. The exertions of the French and Spanish at Hispaniola in collecting troops and transports at Cape Nicola Mole confirm this information. The reinforcements ordered to Jamaica have not arrived.
