6145. Carleton to Lieutenant-General Alexander Leslie. New York. Number 8. In consequence of information received from Governor Campbell of a 'speedy attack', he has judged it expedient to send a body of troops there [to Jamaica] without delay. Asks Leslie to make the necessary arrangements for sending to that island immediately after the evacuation of Charleston is completed, the 3rd, 63rd, 64th and 71st Regiments, and the companies of the 82nd and 84th. Has received letters of 3 and 18 October with their several enclosures. Further mentions the opinions of the crown lawyers, paying for 'negroes', and Moncrieff and Wemyss.
