The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) was created on 14 July 2016 as a result of a merger between the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), to bring together responsibilities for business, industrial strategy, and science and innovation with energy and climate change policy.

BEIS was dissolved in February 2023 and succeded by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).
