To: The General Board of Health.
From: Thomas Hutton, Ormskirk [Lancashire].
Subject Matter: Letter referring to a public meeting held on the 14 June 1850 to oppose the application of the Public Health Act 1848 to Ormskirk, which did not express the feelings of the majority of the inhabitant ratepayers of that town. Hutton gives a detailed account of the proceedings taken. Hutton explains that he occupies premises in the centre of town as a printer and bookseller, and that in the front of the premises is a public sewer, the smell from which is frequently so offensive, that it considered 'poisonous', He adds that at the back of his premises is also a slaughter house. He asks that the Board will not consider the petition emanating from the public meeting allude to as the general feelings of the inhabitants of the town,
