Records selected under Acquisition Policy Theme 2.2.1.2 Management of the economy
Under the Home Credit Scheme of 1967 a credit guarantee was given where there was a reasonable prospect that the ships would be completed. The intention was that home credit ensured, by offering equivalent terms, that British shipbuilders did not build abroad to obtain more favourable terms. The Home Credit Scheme introduced in 1972 gave shipyard owners ordering in UK yards guaranteed credit and interest terms similar to those available from export credit agencies.
