To: G Butler, Secretary, Ordnance Office.
From: Henry Austin, The General Board of Health.
Subject Matter: Draft letter advising that the Local Board of Health for the District of Hitchin [Hertfordshire] have requested that a survey of the Township of Hitchin be made under the superintendence of the Board of Ordnance. It is requested that the Master General and the Board will be pleased to issue the necessary instructions that this survey may be put in hand without delay. It is added that the General Board will request, in all cases in which instructions are given for surveys under the Public Health Act 1848, that the Local Board will at once make arrangements for repayment of the expenses; that the General Board will sanction the raising of loans for the purpose wherever necessary, and they apprehend that there can in no case be any difficulty in obtaining repayment of all funds advanced by the end of the financial year.
