To: William Stevens, Clerk to the Guardians of the Hitchin Union, Hitchin [Hertfordshire].
From: The General Board of Health.
Subject Matter: Draft letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 28 March 1850, advising that he has received written intimation from Mr William Hawkins, who was invested by the Order in Council with the duty of conducting the first election of the Local Board of Health for the Township of Hitchin, a formal intimation of his refusal to act in that capacity; and by virtue of the same Order, the said duty now devolves on him [Stevens], as Clerk of the Guardians of the Hitchin Union. Stevens is advised that a copy of the Gazette transmitted herewith [not included in item] contains the Order in Council, and that the requisite printed forms for conducting the election of the Local Board may be procured from Mr Charles Knight, Publisher, Fleet Street.
