3386. Clinton to Germain. A letter regarding the duties of Mr Elliot, Superintendent of the Department of Imports and Exports being ompromised by demands from the Lord's Commissioner's of His Majestys Treasury, and has submitted his resignation. as Inspector of the Port of New York (which was placed under military by the last Act of Parliament) until such times that civilian rule takes over and resumes its functions. Mr Elliott is persuaded to continue duties as a valued member of the command and assist the Commissioners in collecting duties, when appropriate.
