3331. Sir Charles Gould to Clinton. A letter from Horse Guards regarding the proceedings of General Court Martial held in New York. Relates to the trial of Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas for addressing Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon 'in a manner unlike an Officer and Gentleman' during his absence (Verdict, to be 'Acquitted'), and Lieutenant-Colonel Gordon to be tried for 'not doing his duty before the enemy' (as accused by Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas). Names of those with evidence to trial to be prevented from leaving the country before its commencement. The Court to be comprised mainly of Guards officers with the remainder from other corps.
