3573. Brigadier-General John Campbell, Fort George, Penobscot to Clinton. Furnishes a lengthy report about the strength of the garrison, its defences and facilities for the officers and men. Estimates that within 6 weeks when 3 bastions are ready, the fort will be in an excellent state of defence. Also, that accommodation for officers and 350 men is excellent. Reports the escape of the rebel Brigadier-General Wadsworth and others while being held at Fort George as prisoners-of-war.
