3547. William Knox, Under-Secretary of State, to Charles Shaw, Superintendent of Indians commenting on the recovery from wounds received in the successful defence of Augusta of Colonel Brown. Goes on to discuss hopes for further successes based on close co-operation with Indian tribes (namely the Creek and Cherokee), ordering detachments from the Upper Canada posts to assist Brown in directing the Cherokee parties [against the Patriot militia]. Preventing the rebel inhabitants from reinforcing General Greene's army, or opposing Cornwallis's operations in Virginia.
