3426. Jenkinson to Clinton. War Office. Encloses a copy of a letter received from W Adam, informing him the W Jefferies, late surgeon to the hospital at New York, received £600 from M Laurie in consideration of resigning his commission to that gentleman. This is the only sale even known in the hospital department. Jenkinson does not agree that commissions should have been transacted without permission and asks for the strictest inquiry to be made, and the practice discontinued. Desiring an effectual stop put to proceedings of the like nature in the future.
