Folio 378: Commissioner Richard Beach, Portsmouth. Acknowledgement of the receipt of the warrants for the Master of the Eagle and for Mr. Clemence's timber. He will inform Admiral Killigrew concerning the Master of the Swallow being sick. The Master of the St. David is to be tried today so cannot be disposed to any ship. The bad weather has hindered the docking of the Bredah. Is sending a survey taken on the two States men-of-war, of which, he is sure, Sir Richard Haddock has given the Board an account. He does not think they are in a fit condition to go Holland. Asks for an order for the barge ordered by Sir Richard Haddock for Admiral Almoond, to have the same amount of carving and gilding as the one made for Admiral Evertsen. Thomas Alcock is to continue as Master Caulker, but they are unable to fulfil their intent for Thomas Podd. If the workmen and Ordinary do not receive their pay before Christmas, five quarters being due, he will give a very bad account of the work carried out. Unless more men are sent down the new 5th Rate will not be built until next summer. They have agreed with the Master of a hoy to help weigh the St. David, but they will need money to pay him.
